The 12 (Vancouver) Field Ambulance Association was initiated by LCol. A.M. Warrington, O.St.J., C.D., a British Armoured Corps. officer who became a doctor after WW II. He later served as Commanding Officer of 12 (Vancouver) Medical Company, as it was then named. One of the objects of the Association, as stated in the Constitution adopted on the 19th of October, 1982, is to initiate, support and maintain the Association Museum.

The Museum itself is named after Col. E.J. Bowmer, M.C., who served as a Medical Officer in WW II and was awarded the Military Cross for bravery at Monte Cassino in Italy in 1944. M.W.O. Shoebotham served as a Medic in 12 Canadian Light Field Ambulance in WW II and was present at the Battle of Sogel.

The Museum provides safe and permanent storage of military-medical memorabilia including War Diaries, uniforms, medals, instruments, military books and pictures of historical interest relating to Canada's Armed Forces in war and peace including the Boer War, World Wars I and II and the Korean War.

The continued existence of the Museum serves as an encouragement for the relatives of those who served in the Wars to donate these precious souvenirs to a place where they can be preserved for posterity rather than be permanently lost to future generations of Canadians. A secondary though nonetheless very important purpose for the existence of the Museum is to inspire potential recruits for the Canadian Medical Services, including doctors and nurses.
